VARMBLIXT Collection – Exclusive Exhibition
Commissioned by: IKEA
Brief: organising an exhibition of the VARMBLIXT lighting and home accessories collection
Period: 7 – 13 February 2023

At the invitation of IKEA we had the task to organize an exclusive exhibition to present to the Bulgarian audience the new IKEA collection, created together with the world-famous designer Sabine Marcelis. The muse of the collection is light and its ability to influence our mood and emotional well-being.

The opening event (7 February, KO-OP Gallery in Sofia) also featured a speech by architect Eva Kurteva (KUKADESIGN), who talked about the role of lighting in interiors and how complex, important and enigmatic it is to work on this topic.

About Sabine Marcelis

Sabine Marcelis was born and raised in New Zealand and after graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven, she stayed in the Netherlands and established her practice in Rotterdam. There is a particular self-sufficiency in her objects, smooth and carefully thought through, a pleasing mix between minimalism and whimsy, each of which could stand as a work of art in the space. Her eponymous studio currently maintains a team of designers with whom she works on installations, interiors, furniture, accessories and light. Since the beginning of her career, her favorite materials have been resin and glass because she believes they best capture similar processes in nature. “I am constantly on a quest to capture the intangible in matter and object,” says Sabine Marcelis of her work. For years she has been working tirelessly to push the limits of materials, extending their qualities and performance.

The exhibition of the VARMBLIXT collection is on view at the KO-OP Gallery (17. Yanko Sakazov Blvd.) until 13 February.
